Die Dritte Intifada

Überall in der Westbank warfen palästinensische Jugendliche Steine auf israelische Soldaten. Alle 3500 Palästinenser in israelischen Gefängnissen nahmen teil an einem dreitägigen Hungerstreik.
Der unmittelbare Grund war der Tod eines 30jährigen Palästinensers während des Verhörs durch den Shin Bet. Es war kein Herzinfarkt, wie zunächst (und automatisch) von israelischen Verantwortlichen und ihren Handlangern, den sog. „militärischen Korrespondenten“, behauptet wurde. War es also Folter, wie praktisch alle Palästinenser glauben?

MIT EINEM Wort: Bravo! Die Nachrichten ĂĽber das Versöhnungsabkommen zwischen der Fatah und der Hamas sind gut fĂĽr Frieden. Wenn die letzten Schwierigkeiten ausgebĂĽgelt sind und ein volles Abkommen von den beiden FĂĽhrern unterzeichnet ist, wird es fĂĽr die Palästinenser – und fĂĽr uns – ein Riesenschritt nach vorne sein.

One Word

IN ONE word: Bravo! The news about the reconciliation agreement between Fatah and Hamas is good for peace. If the final difficulties are ironed out and a full agreement is signed by the two leaders, it will be a huge step forward for the Palestinians – and for us. There is no sense in making peace with half a people. Making peace with the entire Palestinian people may be more difficult, but will be infinitely more fruitful. Therefore: Bravo!

“Islam is the Solution”

FIRST, AN apology: I am not going to write about the Wikileaks. I like gossip as much as the next (wo)man. The leaks provide a lot of it, interspersed with some real information. But there is nothing really new there. The information only confirms what any intelligent person could have worked out already. If there is anything new, it’s exactly this confirmation: the world is really managed the way we thought it was. How depressing.
