Im August 2008 setzten sich vierundvierzig Menschen aus siebzehn Ländern in zwei Fischerboote, um die Küste von Gaza zu erreichen. Mit Kompass und Karte ausgerüstet konnten sie am 24.August, weitgehend von den Medien ignoriert an Land gehen und wurden von der Bevölkerung gefeiert. Das war die Geburtsstunde der Free Gaza Bewegung, die nun ihren zweijährigen Geburtstag feiert.

Channel 10, one of Israel’s three TV channels, aired a report this week that surely frightened a lot of viewers. Its title was “Who is Organizing the World-wide Hatred of Israel Movement?”, and its subject: the dozens of groups in various countries which are conducting a vigorous propaganda campaign for the Palestinians and against Israel.

I WAS shaking with fear. A well-groomed gentleman appeared on TV. He was identified as the chief of an association called Re’uth (“Sight”), whose aim is to monitor the groups which deny the legitimacy of the State of Israel.

PEOPLE ENDOWED with sensitive political ears were startled this week by two words, which, so it seemed, escaped from the mouth of Binyamin Netanyahu by accident: “Eastern front”. Once upon a time these words were part of the everyday vocabulary of the occupation. In recent years they have been gathering dust in the political junkyard.
